Are You a Morning Person?

titleOK, well I have been called strange, weird and unusual many times throughout my life, and it’s funny, but I am a night and morning person.  Ever since high school, I have been getting up at 4:30 or 5am to hit the gym.

I know there are a breed of people out there who aren’t really into mornings like me, I even married one of “those” people.  lol  But lets look at what you may be missing.

For me, by noon I have gotten all my real work done, gym, blogs, marketing and any appointments I needed, dentist, doctors, networking, etc..  At noon I start playing, my clinic is open noon to 6pm so I spend the rest of my day just playing (ok, working some call it).  But if I wasn’t a morning person, I would definitely run out of time to get things done.

Marketing in the mornings is perfect, usually I get to chat with the owners or managers because business isn’t booming at 9-10am for most businesses.  So, how can we get “those” others people who don’t like mornings more motivated??

Well maybe some of these people don’t go to sleep till late?  Why?  Are you watching TV?  Playing video games?  If you are in bed by 10-11pm, should be no problem getting up and moving by 6am.  Now maybe some people don’t sleep real well, Try chiropractic, helps with sleeping and provides more energy (Sorry, but it does).  Maybe some good vitamins?  Yes, they can make a huge difference, or good for you breakfast (not necessarily a sugar based one).  There are many small things that can be changed to make you more of a morning person and think of all the things you can accomplish with the added time.

Happy Memorial Day

titleToday is Memorial Day, I just wanted to drop in and say THANKS to those of you who helped make our lives as free as they are.  Remembering those who serve and those who have died for our freedoms is what today means to me.

True, we will eat BBQ, play outside and have fun, but this morning, I sat with my 3 kids and we talked about what today really means, remembering those who serve and have served, those who survived and those who died for our freedom.

So hopefully, you will take the time today to reflect and thank those you know and those you don’t know for their sacrifice.

What are you limits?

titleI was a wrestler growing up, limits were placed on how much we could weigh, how much we could lose, etc.. Growing up there are all kinds of limits placed on us, speed limits, credit limits, minutes were even limited on cell phones.

But those limits aren’t really what I am talking about, what I mean is what are the limits you place on yourself.. Do you even know the limits you have placed on yourself? Limits we seem to place come from all sorts of places, friends, family, colleagues, even church.
First you need to sit down and find those limits you have, then lets find ways to change those limits for the better.  Limits, I look at them as excuses..  Reasons you can fall back on as to why things didn’t go your way.  We don’t like excuses, having them means you gave up, quit or failed.  True, I use excuses too, but I am trying to rid myself of them and reach higher.

So take a look at the limits you have placed on yourself, might take some time, but you have them, find them and work on changing them for the better..

“I LOST MY MIND!!!” But I like it.

titleThere was a time way back when, I started on a friday afternoon, sunday afternoon when I woke up, I was in IOWA. Now over the years, some of those 3 days came back to me, but for the most part I lost my mind for a few days.
Now the people I met along my “walk-a-bout” told me I was happy and the life of the party, so maybe this wasn’t a bad thing???

OK, granted I was young with no real responsibility and my body could handle a few days without sleep, but in the long run, when reflecting on what I did remember, my happiness was artificial.  Without our minds, we aren’t us.  I lost my inhibitions (the few I actually had back then), forgot any responsibilities and obligations I had and took a mental break.  Sometimes I understand the need for that, but when we are older, we have kids, spouses, family, work, friends, etc. that depend on us, going on an unscheduled walk-a-bout won’t work anymore.  So what can we do…

Last night I met with some colleagues who shared what they use to reset themselves.  So this morning I made my first attempt at meditation of sorts.  Its called 49 breaths, takes about 8-12 minutes and was very refreshing.  I don’t know if I will make this part of my daily routine yet, but this or something similar is needed for me to reset myself and focus.  So what do you do to “escape” for  a bit?  Anything?  Well if you don’t, you really need to look into something that will work for you.  Clearing the junk from you will open you up to new and exciting things.

So, not that 49 breaths will be your thing, but look into it, find something that will work for you and your situation to help reset and focus you toward your goals…

You Can’t Please Everyone, Every Time…

titleWhen I was younger, I used to try and make everyone happy.  That my friends is an impossible task, especially if you are a hormone ravaged teenage boy at the time.  But honestly, it can’t be done…

Trying to please everyone, all the time won’t work.  Sometimes others will be offended.  Now, trying to not offend everyone might be a better goal, but still not a great way to live.  People have their own views, beliefs, taboo’s and desires.  They are all different, no two people have the identical views, so be definition, you can’t please all the people all the time right?

So what do we do??  Well over time, granted it took me awhile, but I just stay true to my vision, purpose and life.  Being a Chiropractor I have found that there are those people that still call me a quack, voodoo doc, etc..  I laugh and just let it go.  These people obviously don’t know we have more schooling than their medical doctor, and many have never been to a chiropractor or even know what we do.  So you can’t fight ignorance and win..  True some people just had a bad experience with a chiropractor, which is unfortunate, but true.

So, do I tone down what I stand for?  NO!!!! I don’t, and it does bother me when people are closed minded, but it’s their loss, not mine.  I try and help everyone I can, whether its with chiropractic or with humor, beer or whatever it takes, but some people, you just can’t please, so don’t waste your time trying.

If you are true to yourself, you will have enough people who like you for you, not for you pretending to be someone else.  I have tried to dress like a doctor, tie, slacks, etc..  Its not me, definitely not me.  I love my life, my purpose so far and people, so I will continue to live MY life and those that like it can join me for fun and play.

Ever had one of those weeks?

titleOK, so last week, hurt my ankle tuesday night, I worked tuesday night 10 hours standing on my feet, hobbled myself to the car, drove home weds morning. Ankle was now the size of a grapefruit, throbbing, toes wouldn’t even move, top of the foot was all spongy too.  Weds was my off day, so spent some time icing and then playing with my kids in the afternoon.  Iced weds night, slept kinda bad, then thurs morning went to work.  By thurs at 6pm, barely hobbled to my van, drove home, iced supper then off to work at 9pm again.  Fortunately, they let me out early, got home around 2am, quietly limped myself  up the stairs, iced and fell asleep on the couch.  Morning, knee, ankle and foot pain.  More ice, found old crutches and iced some more.  Did some shopping, daughter pushed the cart, I hobbled on crutches, home and iced, iced, iced.  Friday night worked another 10 hours, but brang crutches so not as bad but swolling was terrible. Home Sat morning and spend the majority of the day on couch with foot in bucket of ice, knee wrapped and kids jumping on me.

Sunday morning, finally feeling better, can hobble again without sweating from the pain, church, playing, mowed the lawn (probably not a great idea, its kinda a big lawn).  Iced alittle in the afternoon, then 10 more hours of work standing.  Monday morning got home showered and headed to my office for a day of marketing, treating and fun.  Knee was pretty good, ankle hurt but swollen was finally under control.

Now its TUESDAY morning, 1 week from when this all started.  I am walking almost straight again, ankle swolling is down to minimal and knee is much better.

Why did I tell you all that?  Well shit happens, for the most part I don’t let things get to me, but 1 week of that was too much.  True, if I could have taken the time to treat it properly, I would have suffered for maybe 2-3 days, but life is busy and I understand sometimes things like this happen.  What I want you to know is, if you can, do take the time to fix problems ASAP because if you don’t, they get alittle harder to fix later.  Everyone makes mistakes, we would be smart to learn from them, sometimes we forget and need a painful reminder to remember what we have learned and not to repeat our mistakes.  I am learning, hopefully you are too, lets make sure we all remember our lessons and don’t repeat them k?

I am BACK!!!!  Ready for more, bring it….

What to do about the “Others” ??

titleThere will be a few of these “others” you will encounter on your journey to do your dreams. These “others” will be the ones that try and stop you by any means necessary. Now these “others” maybe just ordinary people or they may be HUGE organizations.
These “Others” are the negatives to your positive and they exist in every dream there is. Lets imagine a guy comes up with a new battery (hopefully its one of my children) , this new battery holds its charge 10X longer then the best battery out there today. This battery would make electric cars worth the effort, would decrease the use of petroleum products, eliminate the need for traditional batteries because they would be rechargable and last forever with little effort. Now who do you think the “others” would be in this situation? Well you can look close or wide, the oil companies, local and world wide would be threatened, the car companies would be threatened, the current battery companies would also be threatened. Those are some big “others”, the governments would want it too, not to mention greedy businessmen who know about it.
Now maybe your dream is smaller, like losing 10-20 or more pounds. You will still have “others” they may not seem that big, but they are there to destroy your dream. Some might not even know they are doing it, picture a friend who has one of those metabolism where they can eat anything anytime and still lose weight. Well they will offer you food, snacks, drinks, etc without purposely knowing they are destroying your dream. Maybe you are starting a business, the “others” might be competitors, jealous colleagues etc..
The purpose of this post was to let you know and to be aware that they exist. Thats all, it’s your dream, you can’t let the “Others” stop you from achieving it. Sure, you may get distracted, stray from your course, but remember its your dream and you will find your path again and be closer to your end.

its……so…….close…..uuuuuggghhhh!!!!

titleHey all, its my friday.   Have you ever wanted something so bad you would have given two fingers for it, only to have it be pulled away right at the last second?  Everyone has at some point.

Been some good news on my front though, it looks like I finally found a location for my second office which is a HUGE step to me reaching my goals….. But I have been here before and it really sucks when you are so close to what you want and then it gets stripped from you. So today, with the help of this great pic, I wanted to let you know that I still believe there is a higher power that sometimes helps us even when we don’t understand why?
How many of us can remember maybe that girl or boy that we though we would spend the rest of our lives with only to have that end in some bizarre way? Well I believe everything happens for a reason, but sometimes that is hard to accept I know.  But in the end, maybe its your 20th high school reunion and you realize that your life is so much better with the one you have now than it would have been with them.  Cats are funny creatures, they seem to think the world owes them everything they want, but if you have watched and played with a cat much, you will see that they rarely give up without at least 10 trys at something.  They don’t see defeat the way we do, take a laser pointer and watch a cat chase it, he will never, ever truly catch it, but he doesn’t care, he keeps trying and trying.  That is a quality that humans need more of, failure has to happen, but it doesn’t mean quit, it means try again, and again until you find away to make it work for you.
